What is Great Leaps Adventure CIC?

Great Leaps Adventure CIC is a not-for-profit social enterprise that supports children and young people (ages 4–18) struggling with their mental health through outdoor, nature-based programmes. Our woodland sessions combine bushcraft, exploration, and reflective time in nature to build confidence, connection, and resilience. All our profits are reinvested into supporting participants and expanding access to our services.

Where are you based?

We’re located in beautiful woodland at Buckmore Park, near Blue Bell Hill, between Medway and Maidstone. The site is easily accessible from the M2 and M20, making it convenient for families and organisations across Kent, Medway, and South-East London.

Who can take part?

We work with:

  • Young people aged 4–18 experiencing challenges around mental health or wellbeing
  • Children and young people with SEND or physical disabilities
  • Schools, community groups, and alternative education providers
  • Adults and corporate teams seeking outdoor wellbeing or team-building experiences

What kind of activities do you offer?

Our programmes are rooted in bushcraft and nature connection, including:

  • Fire lighting and outdoor cooking
  • Shelter building and tool use
  • Nature crafts and environmental learning
  • Reflective woodland walks and group activities
  • Team challenges and wellbeing sessions

Each activity is designed to promote personal growth, mindfulness, and positive social interaction.

How does outdoor therapy help mental health?

Nature provides a calming, non-clinical environment that encourages openness and reflection. Through shared experiences, gentle challenges, and supportive relationships, participants build:

  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Social connection
  • Emotional regulation
  • A sense of belonging and purpose

We often hear from families that these sessions create lasting improvements in wellbeing and behaviour.

Are your sessions suitable for children with additional needs?

Yes. Our team has over 50 years of collective experience working with children and young people with SEND, autism, ADHD, anxiety, and physical disabilities. We adapt activities to each individual’s ability and comfort level to make sure everyone can participate safely and meaningfully.

Who runs the sessions?

All sessions are delivered by our experienced outdoor practitioners and youth workers, who are:

  • Enhanced DBS-checked
  • Trained in Outdoor & Paediatric First Aid
  • Experienced in safeguarding and mental health support

We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming, safe, and nurturing woodland environment for all.

What should participants bring?

We’re outdoors in all weathers! Please bring:

  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
  • Waterproofs and sturdy shoes or boots
  • A refillable water bottle and snacks if needed

All specialist equipment (for bushcraft, campfires, etc.) is provided by us.

What happens in bad weather?

We run sessions year-round and adapt activities to suit the weather. If conditions become unsafe (e.g. high winds or extreme weather), we’ll contact participants to reschedule or arrange an alternative indoor activity.

How much do sessions cost?

As a Community Interest Company, we aim to keep our programmes affordable and accessible. Some places are funded or subsidised through partnerships and social prescribing. For details on pricing or funded options, please contact us directly.
